MTLS:4960 Project Design Hand-Made Bike II

This class takes place in the fall semester. I will learn how to weld Ti. In the months leading up to the start, I have been designing, modeling, and testing the frame. I started with AutoCAD, then used PTC Creo to make it 3D for ABAQUS to test and analyze the frame.

Mechatronics, Meas & Wearable Robotics

In this class, I used EMGs to collect data before, during, and after five 30-second sprints on a stationary bike. The before-and-after data were collected with maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) movements. This data was collected to identify fatigue within four muscles. The post processing of this data was done in MATLAB. The data was filtered with Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), then with a Bandpass filter. Using Root Mean Square (RMS) and looking at the heart rate/power output data, fatigue was identified. 

Calfee
Design
Internship with Calfee Design, Summer of '23
 

I designed parts to fit both the current design of Calfee's dropout setup and they are to SRAM's spec. The drive side is designed to fit both the transmission derailleur and the UGH. Non-drive side uses a post-mount brake setup. 

Negatives were made of both parts, so they could be made of carbon fiber.

TDSN 3285 Fabrication & Design: Hand-Built Bicycle

In this class, I learned how to weld and how to build a bicycle frame from a few chromoly steel tubes. I also learned how to take an idea and make it come to life.

ME 4024 Product Design and Realization 

In this class, I fine-tuned my efficiency with CAD and improved my detailed product drawing skills. I also gained experience with reverse engineering parts by making them in CAD and then testing them with ABAQUS.

In this class, I fine-tuned my AutoCAD skills. I learned how to properly lay out building plans and what some of the common symbols are.

Here are a few of the art projects I have done in the last two years.

The group of 10 are from my final in basic drawing. My theme was a pop of color in electrical and mechanical objects.

IVD
IVD | Inovative Vehical Design Club

IVD is a student run club. We build a fully functioning electric go-kart. There is one race a year, at the end of the school year.

These are some projects I have been working in my free time.

IMARC
IMARC | Haul

My job is to help the haul group come up with a design that is both strong and hydrodynamic. This design is for the motor mount.

Iowa Formula
IFR | Firewall

My job within Iowa Formula is designing the firewall. for those who may not know, the firewall protects the driver if anything goes wrong and starts a fire or could possibly electrocute the driver.

The current design is built in a way that makes it possible to remove one part of the wall, to have better access to the components below it.
